One of the schemes selected is the Humber Estuary Renewable Energy Supplier Cluster which spans both banks of the river. The scheme includes a 2,000-acre energy park, to be built near Killingholme on the south bank, and the Green Port Initiative in Hull on the north. The focus is on the manufacture and installation of Offshore wind farms in the North Sea.
It is believed that the zone will create up to 4,850 jobs by 2015, with 30,000 being created across the UK.
To encourage growth, the new Enterprise zones will benefit from tax-breaks, simplified planning controls and enhanced capital allowances.
